  • No extra planning or marking required—ready-to-go content that counts as curriculum time.

Why Girls? Why Now?

  • Early Onset of Puberty: Around 12.4% of girls experience their first period before age 11, yet many feel unprepared for the emotional and physical changes of puberty.

  • Body Confidence Challenges: Over 70% of girls report feeling unhappy with their bodies during puberty, highlighting the need for positive body education and support.

  • Impact of Social Media: Nearly 60% of girls feel pressure from social media to look a certain way, with exposure to unrealistic or AI-generated images affecting self-esteem.

  • Friendship and Emotional Stress: Around 50% of girls report feeling anxious or isolated when navigating changing friendships during puberty.

  • Lack of Preparedness for Puberty: One in three girls experience puberty-related changes, including their first period, without feeling informed or supported.

  • Access to Education and Resources: Many students in regional and low socio-economic schools struggle to access comprehensive puberty education, leaving gaps in knowledge about their bodies, emotions, and online safety.

Real Words from Real Girls, Parents and Educators

Seriously! But don’t take our word for it, here are some things people have to say about us.

The GiRLYPOPS workshop led by Lauren was an incredibly engaging and fun experience for our Year 5 students. They were fully involved throughout, enjoying the interactive activities and games that made learning feel like fun. The session covered important topics like body image, puberty, period changes, discharge, emotional shifts, and friendship changes in a relatable way. Students also learned about the impact of the digital age on self-esteem, exploring how AI and edited images create unrealistic beauty standards. They left feeling more confident in loving themselves and navigating the challenges of their changing bodies and emotions. It sparked meaningful conversations, boosted their self-awareness, and was a truly memorable experience. Highly recommended for any school!

Year Five Teacher, Northern Suburbs Perth School

I just listened to Episode One of the GirlyPops podcast and I’m honestly blown away. It’s engaging, informative, and packed with relatable, age-appropriate content that’s perfect for the students I teach. As a teacher preparing to cover puberty and health this term, the podcast gave me fresh ideas, helpful language, and a deeper understanding of how to approach these topics in a way that feels real and respectful to students. You can tell how much time, effort, and thought went into creating this,  it’s such an incredible resource for educators, parents, and teens alike. I’ll definitely be recommending it to my colleagues!

Teacher, Perth Primary School

After my first GiRLYPOPS workshop, I walked away feeling so much calmer about getting my period and I feel confident about all the changes that are coming in the future. I learnt that not everything I see on social media is real and I shouldn’t compare myself to someone on a screen. It was really fun.

❊ FAQs

You’ve got questions,
we’ve got answers

  • We teach puberty and sexual health topics in an age-appropriate, honest, and empowering way. This includes periods, discharge, body changes, hormones, hygiene, emotions, consent, boundaries, respectful relationships, and an introduction to sex education (depending on the year level). We always tailor content to the developmental stage and readiness of each group.

  • We go beyond the basics. Our workshops are engaging, warm, and relatable—designed to actually connect with young people. We create a safe space where they feel seen, heard, and comfortable asking questions they might never voice in a classroom or at home. No awkward lectures or judgment, just real talk that sticks.

  • Knowledge is power, and that’s why we start these conversations early and keep them going, always in an age appropriate way that empowers kids to make smart, safe choices. For primary school students, we focus on understanding their bodies, personal boundaries, and respect for themselves and others. In our Year 7 and 8 workshops, we talk about sex openly and honestly, explaining its primary role in reproduction and how it is the natural beginning of creating life. We go into more detail in the Year 9 - 12 workshops. Because when we talk about it openly, without the cringe, we give them something essential: knowledge. By removing the mystery and breaking the stigma and shame, we empower young people to feel confident in what they know. As they grow, we build on this foundation to teach about boundaries, consent, functional and healthy relationships, safety, protection, and more, giving them the tools to navigate life with confidence, respect, and self worth.

    • Year 5–6: Best for ages 8–12

    • Year 7–8: Best for ages 10–14

    • Year 9–12: Best for ages 13+

We recommend students be placed in the group that matches their year level rather than just age, as the content is tailored to their social and emotional stage. Workshops can include Year 4’s.

  • Not at all. Our workshops are designed to remove awkwardness by making things normal, clear, and empowering. We keep the tone fun, kind, and inclusive—nothing is forced, and students can always choose how much they share or participate.

  • Yes! We’re happy to provide an outline of topics covered at each year level. Transparency is important to us, and we encourage open conversations at home before and after the workshop.

  • All sessions are facilitated by trained, trusted educators who specialise in youth development, wellbeing, and health education. They’re warm, relatable, and experienced in working with young people.

  • We currently run girls-only workshops under the GiRLYPOPS banner. Our programs are inclusive of anyone who has a period or experiences changes in a female body.

  • Just themselves! We provide all materials, handouts, and goodies. Comfortable clothing and a water bottle are recommended.

  • We encourage parents to follow up with a calm, curious conversation. Ask open questions like:

    • “What surprised you the most today?”

    • “Did anything feel really helpful or reassuring?”

    • “Is there anything you want to chat more about together?”

We also provide take-home guides to help keep the conversation going.

  • If your child is in Years 5–6 or older, chances are they’re already hearing bits and pieces from friends, older siblings, or online — and not all of it is accurate or helpful. Our workshops are designed to meet kids where they’re at developmentally, using age-appropriate language and a warm, relatable tone. We focus on building body confidence, emotional literacy, and respectful communication. The goal isn’t to rush them into anything, but to equip them with the right information, at the right time, in a safe and supportive environment — before they go looking elsewhere.
